2026/7 curriculum

The YK 5-week programme combines game-based learning with practical cooking skills to help children build healthier habits for life. Each session focuses on a different food group, giving students the knowledge, confidence, and hands-on experience to prepare nutritious meals from scratch. Every student receives a YK recipe'binder and a kit'bag containing all the fresh ingredients needed to recreate weekly  recipes at home. Throughout the programme, students peel, chop, grate, spiralise, mix, and prepare fresh ingredients, developing practical kitchen skills and confidence week by week.

Week 1: Fruit & Vegetables
Together we explore the 5 Food Groups, discover where vegetables come from, and learn about the role of vitamins and minerals in keeping our bodies healthy. We build confidence with essential knife skills, including the rock chop, bridge, and claw grips, before preparing colourful, vegetable-packed Rainbow Rolls.

Week 2: Carbohydrates
We discover why carbohydrates are our body's main source of energy while making delicious rice-filled Sushi Rolls. We continue developing their chopping, peeling, and food preparation skills.

Week 3: Protein
Students explore why protein is essential for growth, strength, and repair as they create nutritious Protein Shakers, exploring different protein-rich ingredients and healthier snack ideas.

Week 4: Dairy & Calcium
This week focuses on calcium and dairy, with students preparing a mild, family-friendly curry served with Greek yogurt. They take home all the ingredients to recreate the meal with their families.

Week 5: Top your Pot
The final session puts students in charge. Using everything we've learned every one creates their own balanced meal, choosing their own vegetables, protein, and calcium-rich ingredients while applying their knowledge of the 5 Food Groups.
